How To Make Gelato or Ice Cream at Home
Making creamy gelato or ice cream at home is easier than you think. With Scoobs & Winstons plant-based gelato powder mix, you can create smooth, dairy-free desserts by simply adding water and churning.
Our lactose-free powder mix works with most home ice cream machines, but you can also make gelato without a machine if needed.
Ingredients
To make approximately 2 litres of gelato or ice cream, you will need:
• 1 bag Scoobs & Winstons gelato powder mix
• 562 ml water
Method (Using an Ice Cream Machine)
1. Mix one bag of gelato powder with 562 ml water until smooth.
2. Pour the mixture into your ice cream machine.
3. Churn according to the machine instructions.
4. Once churned, you can enjoy immediately as soft serve or freeze for a firmer texture.
For best results, place the gelato in a container and freeze for 1–2 hours before serving.
No Ice Cream Machine? No Problem
You can still make gelato at home without a machine.
1. Mix one bag of powder with 562 ml hot water in a saucepan.
2. Stir gently for about 4 minutes on low heat.
3. Let the mixture cool, then place it in the freezer until half frozen (about 1.5 hours).
4. Remove from the freezer and whisk for 8 minutes until the mixture becomes thick and airy. Recommend using a kitchen aid to create the most air
5. Return to the freezer for 6 hours or overnight until firm.
Tips for the Best Gelato Texture
• Chill the mixture before churning if using a machine without a compressor.
• For a firmer scoopable texture, freeze the gelato for at least 2 hours after churning.
• Add vanilla essence, fruit, chocolate or cookies to create your own flavours.
